

Republicans have sought to distance themselves and the former president from the attack, with some even going so far as to suggest that the whole thing was orchestrated by antifa “agitators” disguised as Trump supporters, perhaps working on orders from Nancy Pelosi. But, the official said, investigators have gathered data indicating communications between unnamed GOP lawmakers and rioters in the days surrounding the “Stop the Steal” rally-and communications between the insurrectionists in which they discussed ties to members of congress. At this point, the FBI hasn’t found direct evidence that any lawmakers “knowingly aided or were involved in the insurrection,” a United States official told CNN. That’s the question investigators are trying to answer as they examine apparent communications between members of Congress and the insurrectionists, at least one of whom has publicly claimed that three pro-Trump congressmen- Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar, and Mo Brooks-helped plan the event.
